at reception, i was told to go up to the rooftop bar. there, i met the rest of my group, consisting of: two Brits, twin sisters from st neots! (it's a small, small world); an American on her own; an Australian on her own; an older Irish/Italian woman on her own; a couple from Sydney, an older Tasmanian couple, and an older Canadian couple. all are very nice! we went for dinner after the welcome meeting, which was lovely (and about 2 quid).
I shared a room with the American, Celeste, and probably will for the rest of the trip. neither of us slept very well, but didn't realise the other was still awake! So, I'm pretty tired right now. breakfast was plentiful but not very exciting, and the room is nice but not up to Lottie-standards.
at 9, we met in the lobby for a brief walk, local tour guide in tow (as well as our tour leader), to a boat, then we had a tour down the rivers around/through Bangkok. might try to upload those now, actually... further updates to come when I've had a chance to write it down! love you all very much and missing you enormously.
